[edit] messages for Steph

Hi. :-) you found my usertalk page! Cool. At the top of the white comment box are "tabs"; one of them says "edit."

Click the edit tab and you will see all of the text on this webpage and some coding. Don't (for now anyway) mess with anything already written. Find the "+" tab next to the "edit" tab and get ready to click that - first, you might want to read the rest of the directions!

When you click the + tab above, a new box will open that is completely empty (no text). There will be a "subject line" box, use this sortof like an email heading: give me a hint of what's to come. After you type that, click into the larger comment box and type away. Now, most important is that you add your "signature" - this is a time/date stamp that does two things: first it lets me know when you posted your comment or question, second, it automatically puts in a link that takes me to YOUR usertalk page, which is where I will leave a response for you. Next time you log in, if you have any "new messages", then an announcement (a banner) will let you know.

To sign, there is a button/icon just above the comment box...the second one from the right end is a kind of "john hancock" symbol. You can click that at the end of your message. Or you can type in a code, four tildas in a row, no spaces.

Ok - it probably sounds complicated but once you do it a few times the habit will be set. THAT is what I want, to SET the HABIT! Always sign - it is a way of taking responsibility, showing pride, and being accountable. I look forward to "seeing you" - that is, reading you, in the Wiki

(Now, go click that + tab and let's get it started!)

[edit] UMass Nightlife and Traditions, what a long road its been =)

Heyyy Steph! I'm not exactly sure what this comment was supposed to consist of but I just wanted to let you know that I feel like a pro navigating around this Wiki now =) I am starting to understand all these little twirks that I was VERY confused about for a while. I am really excited about my groups page on the Wiki (UMass Nightlife and Traditions) I have had a great time gathering information, picture, and videos on and around campus for this. Like I said in my comment earlier today, I have told A LOT of people about this page and my project in general and they all think its a great idea (and do not mind being a part of the pictures and opinions). I hope this project works out the way we planned; it's exciting to finally feel like I know where this class and Wiki is going, and being so close to the due date it seems to all be coming together nicely. I e-mailed you about some confusion about the lab work and part of the project due Monday but my group has worked together very well and have come up with great ideas and methods for putting our page together with our own personal experience in each portion. I hope you enjoy all of our hard work and I know this project is going to be great! --Buckets34 19:15, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Music Group Process so far...

Music Group So far...

We are doing two different things within the music group, not only are we looking into shows that are going on around the area and learning about local bands, but were also creating a song that will (hopefully) be able to play on out homepage or music section of the website.

Alex and I have met and have collaborated on a song that he has written. We hope to record this song not only the two of us singing, but hopefully with other students in the class who play instruments.

As of now our focus will be to get together with all other musicians, create the other parts for them, and record!

[edit] Evaluation Group Proposal so far....

Our group’s focus is on grading within our group dynamics class. Because there is so much to devle into we haven’t decided fully on anything but here are some ideas

-a dot/star system where group/class/Steph members are able to rate your capability within the group (I think it might have been suggested that a person could give themselves a dot perhaps, when they miss a certain task that was assigned to them)

-A Peer Evaluation criteria: Feedback from peers/self eval. about contributions as a group member to Wiki Project. This would count as 50% of our grade (we’re hoping that since 50% of our grade would be based on the project, people would be more encouraged to participate-they still have the ability to better their grade)

-Teacher Assigned Evaluation- considering the fact that Steph has graded/thoroughly read all homework assignements we thought it would be best if she grades us on this portion. Homework would count as about 35%

-Attendance and Contributions- this will hopefully be done mostly by Steph, maybe peer or self eval. The dot/star system could be used as a way for peers to express individuals contributions. Attendance/Contributions would count as about 15%

We also thought it might be helpful to allow a 5 minute time for a class meeting. This meeting could be in our smaller group or the bigger group. The meeting would address things like 1.which group members met 2.what was accomplished 3.next steps 4.group progression * this is also where the star/dot system could be instilled. We feel like this meeting is important because one of the most important things within a group dynamic is for the group to stay in contact and have open communication.--Summer22 12:02, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Shopping in Amherst/ Surrounding Areas

Hey Stef-

We are working on a page that illustrates all the great places to go shopping in Amherst and the surrounding areas such as Hadley, Northampton, and Holyoke. We are still having some trouble learning the wiki but the more we use it the more familiar we are becoming with it. Our page consists of malls and privately owned shops in the area for college students to enjoy. We have a pricing key and give a description of what merchandise they can find at each store. We are still progressing. We would like to add photographs that we have taken of different locations, add different ways of transportation to each shopping venue, and so on...

[edit] Informed Consent

Our group has yet to identify a product, or even if there should be one. We have discussed the possible findings that could be extracted from our class time regarding group dynamics. We have also discussed what we may have liked to study from the start knowing what we know now. Lastly, we discussed some ways in which we might evaluate Steph's evolution in relation to our group's dynamic.

What might we find? We all can identify the evolution of the relative comfort level in the class. From day one, working together as a group has been a progressively easier undertaking. We have moved through a couple stages of group dynamics and have reached a point where tasks can be handled more efficiently as a result. Specifically, the storming session we went through tore down some communication barriers that likely prohibited the group from operating at full potential. We, the members of the informed consent group, feel that a study in how class members rank each other in the peer evaluations might uncover a correlation between ratings (quantitatively) and comfort level (qualitatively).

What would we do if we could do it again? Having been through the experience of Class a la Steph, we suggest that it may have been interesting to look at group member satisfaction in relation to time in class. How satisfied (could also be measured as optimism) were group members after the first day of class? How about after getting used to Steph's style of instruction? After the storming session? How about now, with the semester almost over and little done on the wiki?

What's the story with Steph? Steph's brand of instruction was new to almost all of us. As we learned to work with her, she inescapably changed in some way to work with us. What were those changes? How much did the group dynamic influence those changes? Have we (the class) and Steph (the instructor) reached a healthy working relationship?

[edit] Study Abroad

So far we have included our stories of going abroad to study. We have put in some pictures and a couple of anecdotes. This week we are going to try and get stories and pictures of other people's abroad stories and post them on the wiki.
