Andrew,
I have been lucky enough to receive your paper entitled “Another Brink in the Wall.†After having read your paper, I have come to identify a few things about your personality that come through in your writing. First, you seem to have either done your research about the film or you simply know a lot about Pink Floyd and “The Wall.†It is interesting that you were able to draw connections between the life of Roger Waters and the life of Pink in the movie. It is also interesting to read about your first few days at UMass and feeling like “an island.†From my point of view, this humanizes you and lets me know that you are experiencing the same feelings that thousands more experience as well. To me, this is the beginning of your identity. I was happy to see you make a distinction between your feeling of isolation and Pink’s more extreme isolation. You seem much more down to earth and in a healthy state of mind, whereas Pink seemed to be on the brink of serious mental instability. You also appear to be a free thinker, not wanting to be held down by the standards our society imposes on younger generation. Your observation that “feelings [of monotony, wasted time] are often quelled and even, eventually, forgotten†is very insightful and leads me to believe that you disapprove of people who, with time, forget the core values that make them who they are while they are young. Perhaps, then, you also disapprove of those who give into society’s pressure just because it is too difficult to resist it. It is so refreshing to hear someone else say that they will not forsake their own ideas “simply for the good or convenience of someone at else.†Overall, your paper proves you to be curious and independent, willing to make your own decisions and be prepared to face the consequences. Your independence is your identity. SharonC 16:18, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
