1.As a reader, I agree with the stance that Jenkins has taken. I believe that video games let children travel all over the place and keep them safe at the same time. Like Jenkins said, some neighborhoods are not that nice and don’t offer a lot of space to play. Video games give kids a chance to experience the adventures that their parents had, but in a way that works better with the world today.
2.The author targets parents of children that may have experienced the outdoor adventures that he did when he was young. He targets them because they know what it used to be like before video games and they can relate to what he is saying a lot more than kids can. He wants to explain to them that even though he is disappointed that life for a child isn’t what it used to be, video games are not the reason for a lot of the problems that they are blamed for.
3.I am not the type of audience that this author is writing to, however I completely understand the point that he is trying to get out. I think that adults need to understand that technology is advancing and the world is not as safe as it used to be, therefore making video games a great alternative to wandering the streets all day.
4.To be more effective, Jenkins could have put in less information about his past experiences and maybe included more facts and figures that help support his stance. This could help the audience realize more that videogames may not be the cause of children becoming somewhat violent and other things that they are blamed for.
