- Pink Floyd: The Wall
- The movie is about Pink, a world renowned rock star, sits traumatized in his hotel room. He starts fantasizing and imagining about the disgusting scenarios happening in the world. He is sick of fame, sex, drugs and other drawbacks of his style of life. He is weary, isolated and self-destructive. He then smashes his guitar and begins hallucinating. When Pink thinks of war battles, he imagines dozens of corpse and thinks of combat soldiers as fans charging into a concert. The mood was negative and depressive; he only imagines the downside of the war and the fans’ attitude was more aggressive and destructive than passionate. Pink expresses his empty feeling about his mother. His imagination about himself lying frozen dead beside his mother shows he does not feel warmth and love. When Pink thinks of himself as young Pink, it is with the greatest revenge. He imagines students breaking desks and chairs and setting the school on fire. As the song goes, “Teacher, leave the kids alone.” He also expressed his feelings about fascism. As the powerful Pink, he sees himself as a Nazi-like dictator.
- The graphics and animations presented the writer’s dreamy imagination. Blood are throughout the movie; it represents how much the writer bitter hates death. Bullets and wall shots represents all the bad issues are attacking him. The flowers engaged in angry sexual congress. The prostitutes and seductive women all disgusted Pink. Bricks and masks protect us but obstruct us as well. They let us hide ourselves and cover our weaknesses; but it also builds a barrier between ourselves and other people. Rock music represents teenagers’ attitude. As pink’s lyric writes, “one more brick in the wall.” Each brick means one pressure of the world on his shoulders.
- The movie is very wicked and scary. It was very suspenseful and confusing in the beginning, but then I started to realize the writer’s message. They remind me of my experiences I have had during my first few weeks here at Umass. For instance, the Umass party-goers are like the mop of kids charging into a concert. Seeking for enjoyment and wildness, both the kids seemed outrageously aggressive. Thus, we are known by student ID numbers, they are like masks and bricks that keep us unique. However, it gives us a notion that we are simply numbers and letters without any characteristics. The media greatly affect young kids and teenagers. Violence, sex and alcohol are bad influences that trigger their curiosity. They want to try something “cool” and something that their parents forbidden them to touch. “Pink Floyd: the wall” resembles teenagers attitude and prospective of the world. It shows teenagers’ importance to society and creativity of using straightforward animations and symbols to express some deeper meanings.
