[edit] Who Am I? First draft narrative essay
“I”, a pronoun I use over a million times a day. It is a word that I use to identify myself; a word to say what I think; a word to tell others what I want; a word to differentiate myself from others. “I” is an alphabet full of egotism. Every individual can use “I” to address himself, what makes “I” different from other “Is”? [Why is this here?]
“I” [why quotes?]am Lincey YunQing Qi. Yun-Qing, if translated to English, means "clear clouds." Often I think I own [have] a bad name because I get really spacey sometimes. [I don't know what you mean] The spelling of my first name always confuses people but I like it. I love seeing the squiggling red lines under my name when I use word processors. I was born on September 19, 1987 at Boston, Massachusetts. I was a preemie [born prematurely] and I came into this world three months earlier [sooner than expected]. I had a hemangioma on my right knee. I never know what it is called until I had to write about it in my senior memory book. [what is it? why did you write about it?] I have dark brown hair over my shoulders. I have perfect eyesight which I inherited from my dad. My shoe size is 9 but I am only 5’4. I can never borrow my friend’s shoes. (That way I would never fall) ???I have big hands so I play [and I have played] the piano for five years. I still can’t play a complete song. I lived in Boston until I was eight, then I moved to Hong Kong and stayed there for seven years and I went to California on my own. I basically have no memories of Boston; I remember bits and pieces like certain people and names. Hong Kong the best place ever! It’s a fusion of western and eastern culture so that I get to do everything! [like what?] My parents stayed there for good but I wanted to go to California to get a better education. Living in California was a memorable experience. The first two years at a professor’s house was like hell. [You did not mention that you lived with a professor. Elaborate.]' I was constantly getting scolds [scolded] from him for stupid reasons. The third year was awesome because I moved in with my friend Kelly and her parents. They were the nicest people! We were like a family. And my senior year at Chino Hills High School was a blast! I made a lot of good friends and it was just unforgettable! I love traveling, meeting the people and learning their cultures. I have been to Australia, Dubai, Korea, Guam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and a lot of provinces in China. I wish I could visit those places again since I did not really gain too much knowledge or experience when I traveled at a young age. When the Tufts University interviewer asked me what I have learned from all that traveling, all I could say was food. Volunteering and helping others is something that I want to do for life. I adopted a boy from China when I was in 8th grade for world vision. [you adopted a child? huh?]I have always wanted to help children because I think they are the happiest people on earth and I want to extend their happiness. I had insomnia for one year because I wasn’t able to adapt to my new school environment. It was the most stressful time in my life until now. My parents divorced when I was two. My mom remarried and we moved to Hong Kong. I haven’t spoken to my stepfather and his family for half a year. My family is the number one priority in my life, it comes first before everything. Especially my mom, she has been through a tough time, I will work hard to give her a better life in the future.
People describe me as slow, laid-back, forgetful, quiet and hardworking. (I can be loud at times) I hate myself for being slow and absent-minded. [don't say you hate yourself!]My goal for the meantime is to be more confident. That was one of my wishes I prayed for at a Buddhist temple. I have always wanted a healthy body and live a long life. To get rid of my zits, I tried to drink ten cups of water a day. I tried south beach diet, but I failed and gained more weight instead. I like mild colors. Pink matches me somewhat. The theme of my 18th birthday was pink, so all my friends wore pink on that day. I like comfortable clothes with stylish cuttings. [do you mean hairstyles?] Brands like FCUK, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren. I like Abercrombie and Finch too but too many people have them. but it has become too mainstream (or something like that)
I am a sports idiot. Not a hands-on person. [that was not a sentence] But I still like playing badminton and ping-pong. I love squash too ( If you know what it is) I swim in the summer but not at the beach because I don’t want people to see me in my bathing suit. I love milk, chocolate chip cookies, white chocolate and hot cheetoos. They are my energy sources and they make me happy. I love spicy food and all the Asian cuisines. I grew up eating them. I can’t live without them. To have some working experience, I worked at a fast food restaurant called Happy Wok. The manager said she liked watching me work because it was like a comedy. I spilled water everywhere and burnt myself constantly… [why are you using elipses?] For leisure, I would watch Korean dramas until 3a.m.They are interesting even though they are corny most of the time. My favorite singer/artist is Jay Chou. His songs touch & move me. I am obsessed with “mixes” (half White and half Asian) Looks are important but personality always goes first.
My dream is to go to France and other countries in Europe. I learn French so I would sound smart when I order food in an expensive French restaurant. (You may think I’m shallow, but that’s what I think) I learn Spanish in high school to communicate with my Hispanic co-workers at work.My life is dramatic. A man accidentally ran into the airplane restroom while I was using the toilet. The man was standing there laughing when I was trying to pull up my pants! How embarrassing! [how does this all fit together?] People say I don’t have an accent; I actually do when my brain is not thinking in English. I can switch channels pretty quick though. I can say one word in English and one in Chinese, alternating. Sometimes I can’t say the word “Tylenol” and “Vanilla.” I used to have in Filipino/Indian Accent because all my classmates in elementary were Filipinos and Indians. I have issues with cars, my 2005 Acura RSX. I always back up into other cars. I got a speeding ticket from a cop who chased me for 15 minutes. And I didn’t realize it was after me. I hit a 2 door Nissan sports car right after prom. I eat a banana everyday, sometimes two. I love mangos, strawberries and peaches as well. I am the queen of fruit!
I suck Suck?!at Math and science, Even though there’s a stereotype that Asians are good at Math. I am better with languages and history. I have excellent memory when I want to. I do not always finish a book since I have bad persistence but I finished Harry Potter, Da Vinci Code and The Devil Wears Prada. I don’t have a favorite movie because I always tend to forget what I saw after a while. Comedy, Romance and adventure are my favorite genres. Another hobby of mine is surfing on the internet; I send emails and chat with my pals. My hotmail mailbox has over 1000 mails unread. It is full of junk mails and I refuse to check them! This is how ignorance I am. ignorant is the adjective form... but I don't think it is the word you should use (But I opened a new account at gmail.)I’m afraid of rollercoasters but I always ride on them. I love Six Flags! They have the best seasoned fries! It was the best high school experience! I had such a great time!
Every fact I wrote above is personal, it represents “me”, Lincey Qi. No one has the same experience, same values or same appearance. No one writes like the way I write. No one knows every detail about me. No one can ever really know who I am except myself. Only I could feel my feelings and think the way I think. I am proud to be myself!
