She was born in the city of Albany, New York. Being raised in the suburban of Washington D.C, she found her interests and ambition in life. She was strongly influenced by her Irish heritage. As her parents are cartographers, she had copious of opportunities to travel around the world. She loves folk music and reading. She also plays field hockey and yoga. She is an atheist and she is scared of death. She worked at a preschool and an Indian restaurant. Her name is Sharon Cannistra.
Since she lived very close to Washington D.C, politics became a part of her daily life. With her mother working at Washington Post, there would always be politics included in their family conversations. Therefore, Sharon chose to major in Political Science. She is gifted with a straightforward and opinionative writing style. Traveling around to so many continents, Sharon developed a great sense of global view. In her writings, she would always include her travel experiences like the rich cultures and the striking aesthetic beauty of the countries she had visited. She listens to Bob Dylan and Devendra Banhart when she composes a piece of writing. Her favorite book is Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt because it is a part of her heritage and history. The family of Sharon’s mother was Irish Catholic and grew up poor; it is like a well-written reflection of her mother’s life. This kind of memoir influences Sharon’s style of writing. She would depict characters with strong identities and backgrounds.
Sharon is the very active and athletic when she’s in the hockey field. She developed an aggressive and ambitious personality that helps her to write a better political paper. The passive side of Sharon can been seen when she does yoga. That is where she gets her laid back character. And with no religious belief, she can express her ideas freely without any boundary. Teaching at a preschool shows Sharon is eloquent that she could make people understand her well. She was attached to Indian culture while working at an Indian restaurant. Curry and Indian music would be themes we can find in her writings.
