Overall, most of the class had very similar reflection letters to mine. We all seemed to face similar challenges and learned how to overcome them and to improve our writing. I think that everyone has improved in their writing because of this class. The most striking similarity that I noticed was Andy discussing his problems with organization. He states, “The first draft of my paper orchestrated my lack of understanding of the concept”, which is something everyone in the class can relate to, especially me. His problem was his wordiness; mine was that I had too many claims. Either way, my paper lacked organization. It did not flow evenly. Jessica also says she too has trouble getting her papers organized: “I am still having trouble connecting all of my thoughts so that they flow together nicely”. This is a major problem that I have learned to overcome. One thing that Jessica said she has improved on is grammar. I do not think that I can say the same for myself. I still seem to have problems with verb tense agreement and using improper pronouns. I notice slight improvement, but I do not think that it is something I have completely fixed. Kelley pointed out something that I have completely ignored in all of my reflection letters; you need to anticipate what the reader is going to think”. I spent so much time looking for grammatical errors and other distractions that I completely ignored this factor. I never considered about what the reader was going to think about my work. I think that I was so distracted with what I was writing about, that I did not even consider this. I think that everybody had something inspiring to say about their writing. I think that it is great to hear that people, who were struggling with the same things as me, all said how they had improved. I think Adam puts it best: “Steph has been trying to improve us as people as well as writers”. It is true. I think that the writing we have done in class has brought out emotions and feelings, revealing our true identities.
