Thanks to the COM352 students for contributing a bunch of new pages! I'll be moving these pages into the main area of the wiki soon.
UMassWiki:How to create a page
From UMassWiki
Creating a page in UMassWiki is easy! Just make a link to the nonexistent page in a relevant page.
For example, let's say you're reading list of restaurants and dining areas and you want to add an article about Joe's Diner. Click the "edit" tab at the top of list of restaurants and dining areas and find where you want to put the link to Joe's Diner in the text box.
Once you've found the spot, simply make a link like this: [[Joe's Diner]]. The double brackets around a word or phrase creates a wikilink. Then, save the page and click on your new link. You'll automatically be taken to the Joe's Diner edit page.
[edit] How to create a page if there is no relevant parent
Ideally, all new pages should be linked to by some other page, otherwise they are orphaned. Since UMassWiki is new, there might not be a relevant page on which to create your link. In that case, you should create the relevant page first. For example, if you want to create a page on your fraternity or sorority but there is no general page or list of Greek organizations, create the general page first and then link to your specific page from there.
If you don't have time or this is too confusing, you can type the page name into the search box on the left and create it using the link provided when the search fails.
[edit] Guidelines for page naming
Article titles in UMassWiki are (partially) case-sensitive. That means that capitalization usually matters.
Most page titles follow the rule that the first letter of the first word is capitalized, and the rest of the words are not: for example, List of restaurants and dining areas. However, names of Academic Departments, RSOs and other officially named entities are capitalized the way you would expect: e.g., "Spanish and Portuguese Department" and not "Spanish and portuguese department." Same with the names of people and categories.
