University Health Services

University Health Services is a full-service clinic open 24 hours a day during the semester and located adjacent to Central at 150 Infirmary Way. UHS provides comprehensive primary care for adults and children, urgent care, mental health care and many other services and programs. Most care is fully covered under the Basic Health Plan, which is mandatory for all students taking more than five credits. See also Basic Health Plan (the mandatory coverage) and Student Health Insurance Plan (the extended coverage).

Medical advice is available 24/7, 365 days a year, by calling the Triage Advice Nurse, 577-5229. Call before coming to UHS – we’ll help you determine the best course of care for your illness or injury.

UHS is not a hospital and does not have an emergency department. If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 for ambulance transportation to a hospital.

UHS offers: General medical care, including routine visits, care for acute minor injuries and walk-in urgent care; and confidential mental health services for individuals, couples and families.

Plus: acupuncture, allergy shots, eye care, health education, HIV testing, immunizations, mind/body medicine, mononucleosis clinic, neurology, nutrition services, obstetrics and gynecology, occupational health, optical services, orthopedics, pediatrics, physical therapy, radiology and ultrasound, sports medicine, travel medicine and more.

UHS also has a full service mental health clinic in Hills North. Services are confidential and include counseling for individuals, couples and families, support and therapy groups, behavioral medicine, medication management and an eating disorders clinic. The professional staff also provides consultation and education for the campus and surrounding communities.

The Student Health Fee entitles you to six therapy visits each semester; after that, costs are billed to your primary insurance plan. Medication visits are billed to your primary insurance first; the Student Health Fee will cover remaining charges.

UHS also runs some of the University's support groups.

Persons interested in longer-term therapy and additional support groups should also read about the Psychological Services Center.

Following referral by a UHS primary care provider, patients are evaluated by clinic staff. Treatment can include computerized biofeedback; clinical hypnosis, autogenics training and other forms of relaxation therapy.
