Theatre Guild

From UMassWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The UMass Theatre Guild is an RSO that puts on both a musical and a play each semester. It is the oldest RSO on campus, dating all the way back to 1906, when it was formed as the UMass Operetta Guild. In the Fall of 1990, former advisor Judy Gagnon combined the UMass Music Theatre Guild and another theatre RSO, The University Players, to create the UMass Theatre Guild that we know today.

In addition to the play and musical, the Guild offers several events during each semester, such as the Coffeehouse, a FREE event in which anyone can perform, and a bus trip to New York City to see a Broadway musical. At the end of each semester, a banquet is held to celebrate the semester's achievements. Also at one time, we co-sponsored a series of One Acts held out by the Morrill Buildings.

Auditions for all shows are open for anyone. The Theatre Guild's office is located in the Student Union, room 423A.

Little Known Fact - The republican club was afraid of us, as were the Gamers.

Fact - Two of the Guild's chairpersons shared the nickname "Shady".
