Puffton Village

From UMassWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Puffton Village is a large off-campus apartment complex located at 1040 North Pleasant Street about six blocks north of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. It has one, two and three bedroom apartments which are primarily rented by students who have moved out of the dorms. It is served by the PVTA #30 bus (North Amherst) and has its own bus stop. Puffton is situated directly across from Hobart Lane and is the site of frequent parties.

Apartments are organized into roughly horseshoe-shaped clusters (visible by satellite) with a central quad for the inward-facing apartments. The complex is generally quieter towards the rear, though not always. When renting, it's a good idea to show up in person and ask to see more than one apartment if possible as some units are in better condition than others.

Heat and hot water are included; electricity (including air conditioning), telephone and cable or satellite television are not. For its Off-campus Internet, Puffton is served by Verizon DSL and Comcast High-Speed Internet. Comcast is quite reliable in Puffton and download speeds can reach over 800KB/sec with initial burst up to 1600KB/sec.

Puffton Village has a full-time maintenance staff and is good about fixing problems promptly when asked. Do not hesitate to notify the management of any issues with your apartment.

[edit] Recreational facilities

Puffton offers a swimming pool (only open during summer break), tennis courts, and a small basketball court and playground. There are also fields large enough for playing wiffleball and frisbee. The apartment complex is large enough that some students have reportedly designed a 6-hole "golf course" using wiffleballs and a small cooler as the portable "hole."
