[edit] Description
From the Dept. of Political Science website :
The Department of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst trains students to describe, analyze, and explain the political dynamics of today's increasingly interconnected world, in which politics and governance are multi-level phenomena operating simultaneously at the local, subnational, national, regional, and global levels. Undergraduate students gain knowledge and critical skills enabling them to be active and constructive participants in civic life as well as more capable professionals in vocations involving public affairs. Graduate students principally prepare for careers as professional professors of political scientists who will advance knowledge through research and enhance the prospects of effective democratic governance through education in and beyond the classroom.
Like the majority of the school, and indeed the entire state of Massachusetts, the Political Science department has a reputation for being overly liberal in its teachings. Indeed, there are few self-pronounced conservatives among the faculty, the most notable being Jeffrey Sedgwick. Whether not it deserves this reputation is up to the students.
