Thanks to the COM352 students for contributing a bunch of new pages! I'll be moving these pages into the main area of the wiki soon.
Off-campus Internet
From UMassWiki
Students living in Amherst basically have two options for high-speed off-campus Internet access: Verizon DSL and Comcast Cable.
- Verizon is cheaper (around $30 a month) and slower (1.5Mbps down, maximum).
- Comcast is more expensive (around $58 a month with the most basic cable TV package) and faster (6Mbps down).
Users can share their connection with multiple roommates with both of these providers by using an ethernet/wifi router. The more roommates you have or the more power users, the more you should think about spending the money for Comcast and the extra speed. This is especially true for people who engage in "file-sharing."
