The Facebook is a "personal networking" web site for college students to post profiles, join online groups, and share pictures and information about themselves. UMass Amherst has a section on the Facebook.

In early September 2006, Facebook introduced a feature called Feeds. This feature broadcast logs of a user's activity on the site to that user's friends list, and displayed the logs in a 'Mini-Feed' in the user's profile. In about 3 days, over 700,000 users joined a Facebook group protesting the lack of privacy controls and the story hit national media including TIME Magazine, the Washington Post, and many other outlets. Due to the overwhelmingly negative user response, Facebook added a number of privacy controls to the feature on September 8.

For those concerned about the privacy implications of the recent Feeds feature, there is a way to mass delete items from your feed. See http://www.evernex.com/facebook/
