Jump to: navigation, search

Don't Make a Scene is an underground sketch comedy troupe based in and around the Amherst area, primarily on the UMASS Campus. It was founded in 2004, and is entirely student-run. It is known to deliver literary references and subtle wit, along with situations viewers may be disturbed to find themselves laughing at.

[edit] Shows

Don't Make a Scene has produced and performed five full-length sketch shows to date. Shows are performed at the end of each semester. Each show features scenes that adhere by varying degrees to a certain theme. Past shows include:

  • The Growing Up Show
  • The Disabilities Show
  • The Authority Show
  • The Deception Show
  • The Apology Show

Each show features scenes, monologues, and videos produced, written, and performed by the cast. Common themes for these scenes include marriage, family, life, death, and childhood. While the language used is usually clean (to a degree), Don't Make a Scene does not perform much family-friendly material.

[edit] Cast

The cast is composed mainly of students attending UMASS, but has in the past also included recent UMASS alumni as writers and performers. Several of the troupe's past members continue to write for the current performing cast. Auditions are held as needed, usually at the start of each semester. Over the years the cast has ranged in size from 9 to 14 performers, and the upcoming semester is set to feature a cast of ten.
