[edit] Introduction
The office of Disability Services is charged with providing a range of accommodations for students, employees, and campus visitors with recognized disabilities so they may fully participate in campus and community life.
[edit] Requesting Services
In order to be eligible for academic or workplace accommodations, one needs to be recognized by the University as a person with a qualifying disability. Recognition begins with registering with Disability Services. This involves two steps: 1) complete an intake form, available on request; 2) submit appropriate materials documenting a disability diagnosis. Disability Services (DS) will use these materials to determine if the individual is eligible for services under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Applicants will be notified of their status by mail.
Qualified individuals will be instructed to contact Disability Services in order to schedule a first meeting with their Consumer Manager.
Disability Services has a rolling enrollment policy, however individuals are encouraged to submit materials as soon as possible.
[edit] Accommodations
The specific accommodations an individual will require are determined on a case by case basis, however, common examples include: additional time for exams/quizzes, additional time for assignments, note taker/prepared notes, quiet location for exams, scribe, reader, alternative text formats, lab assistance, classroom assistance, interpreting, use of a computer for in class writing, access to Special Transit, and Academic Access Assistance (AAA).
