In-Class Activities: April 26
- Turn in Unit Three Portfolios (I'm tempted to deduct double or triple points, as some of you ahem have either become more casual or simply decided to blow this off.) :-(
- Confirm second appointment schedule with Steph. If you have not yet met with me for your second individual consultation you MUST do so (required to pass the course).
- Magazina Teama and WikiTeam GROUP (team) appointments with Steph. Friday?
- Grades-to-date (and chocolate! only if you are present)
- Revision (from short story to screenplay): Sherman Alexie's Introduction to Smoke Signals
- What's this Introduction about?
- Why and how he wrote the movie. Why he likes movies. It was successful. The first movie by and about Native Americans. Where he's coming from and why the movie "is what it is." The roles of various people in making the movie = the context. Background of poverty...
- What is Alexie's point?
- Why did Steph assign us to read it?
- "Three Quarter" class evaluations
- Unit Four. Wikiteam and Magazine Team Members work constitutes Unit Four (IF there is evidence that you have been an active, contributing member, otherwise you are off the team and will need to write a fourth unit paper; sorry to have be so tough, and...what did you think?!?!!!!?).
- This I Believe
- Adding to one of OUR conversations
- Another sample of impressive persuasion based on research and writing
Homework: due May 1
URGENT - please read this note from the magazine team and send them what they need ASAP. Thanks. steph (COM) 09:44, 29 April 2007 (EDT)
- Personal Reflection Letter #2 (must be posted on the wiki)
- Read Conversation on School Violence in The Text-Wrestling Book (pp. 374-404) and take notes. There are two parts to this "conversation": the first is by Michael Furlong & Gale Morrison "The School in School Violence: Definitions and Facts", and the second is by Gloria Steinem "Supremacy Crimes." POST three each in the wiki: Saybacks, Pointings, Almost Say-Backs, and Questions in the proper place with your signature for credit.
- Rewrites Unit 2 due (all of you are 'still alive', should you choose to continue)
- Penguin Points (baseline credit) to be posted along with the other antarctic creatures
- Take a peek at the tentative Table of Contents for our printed class magazine!
