From UMassWiki
Day 2
There are three basic rules that apply to your performance in all aspects of this class:
- 1. Do your work.
- 2. Don’t be stupid.
- 3. If you are stupid:
- a. Admit it.
- b. Deal with the consequences.
- 3. If you are stupid:
- 2. Don’t be stupid.
Today’s activities:
- Turn in generative papers on The Jacket.
- Grading Policies and Class Procedures {ex: logistics for first papers}
- In-class analysis of a peer’s generative writing.
- a. Read carefully, feel free to mark and jot down comments – main themes and important points.
- b. What do you learn about the author? E.g., What kind of person does she/he seem to be? What does he/she care about? How does s/he perceive the world?
- c. What is the message or point that the author makes? What meaning(s) did he/she glean from the movie? What relationship(s) between the movie and their own life?
- d. To whom does the author write? Does he/she have a particular audience in mind? How can you tell?
- e. If time permits, sketch an outline of the Peer Review paper you will write to “the public” of this class about the author (homework).
Homework: due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, February 6.
- I. Based upon the work you began in class, write a one-page analysis (same logistics) of your peer’s paper and bring two (2) hard copies (plus their paper) to class.
- II. There will be an in-class quiz on a proposed course wiki. Please spend an hour or so checking it out. Questions will cover current content and assess your familiarity with we:bsearching. For instance, are there previous examples of what a course wiki might accomplish?
