Adding to a Conversation

  • turn in portfolios; first full draft
  • did anyone utilize the resources I provided in the Homework Due link for today?
  • keep your eyes, ears, minds and other senses open for leads, tips, clues, angles and any other sources that could inform your perception of your "big paper" topic and help you strategize how to identify and approach your intended audience!
  • Library research day: October 23.
  • revisit the blogpost you made about your topic, decision-making:research. Post another comment, now, about how your paper evolved from the initial idea to what you ended up writing about. Note: this needs to be printed and put in your Reflection Letter Portfolio!!!

grammar matters!

Meaning trumps! Christine1105 did something amazing with the title for her Unit One narrative introducing WinMi. Her creativity allowed me a great opportunity to "think out loud" through a process of interpreting meaning: Are you dare ???.

Interacting with Text

In randomly-created trios, determine the meaning of this quotation:

...most of us do not regard reading as a complicated activity, involving many different steps in each of which

we can acquire more and more skill through practice, as in the case of any other art. We may not even think there is an art of reading.
We tend to think of reading almost as if it were something as simple and natural to do as looking or walking.

Mortimer Adler
  • Stuck? Read the sentence in context (click the author's name to get to the source).
  • Still stuck?

Next, write a one sentence summary (jointly) of Adler's point. Post your statement on our CourseWiki's homepage: Interacting with Text. Include a title (with the appropriate number of = equal signs = so that your entry appears in the Table of Contents (and has its own unique link). Sign. Each member of your trio will have to login separately and edit in order to add their signature with distinctive link. (Some of you are still not signing properly! Or are forgetting to...tsk tsk!!) Homework Due 16 October

Read Art Objects by Jeanette Winterson, in The Textwrestling Book. Pg 328-339 Map the rhetorical situation like we did with The Clamor of Justification by Barry Lopez. (Photos of the board are posted for your review.)

WikiTeam: Before coming to class, find a time that you can all come to Steph's office hours for a planning/strategy session. (If there is no time during office hours, then list all other times when you can all meet and I will try to accommodate your schedule.)

Magazine Team: Before coming to class, find a time that you can all come to Steph's office hours for a planning/strategy session. (If there is no time during office hours, then list all other times when you can all meet and I will try to accommodate your schedule.)
