- turn in worksheets from last Tuesday with the baseline point activity (the names of peers you hopefully remembered...)
- another round of concentric circles [icebreaker/intro activity]
- turn in papers with feedback (make sure your name is on them!)
- random drawing for homework reading assignment
- customize weblogs and trouble shoot any lingering category problems
- discuss course requirements, policies, and guidelines
- QUIZ
- return papers with feedback to their authors (Steph wants to peek at them quickly first)
Homework due 13 Sept
- READ: randomly assigned Unit 1 Essay from The Student Writing Anthology. Come to class prepared to discuss how well the writer combined the elements of titling discussed in class last week with the rest of the essay.
.
- POST A COMMENT: find the review(s) at the combined group blogpage, The Wall for ENG112, that you think was written about your paper. Read it carefully and respond thoughtfully:
- What does your Peer Reviewer think about your writing? Include evidence to support your perception.
- How well do you think your Peer Reviewer understands the point(s) you wanted to make? Again, what did they write that gives you this impression?
- What kinds of advice, ideas, feedback, or suggestions did the Peer Reviewer give you that are actually helpful? Could they have written their feedback in another way that would have been better for you to receive and understand?
- NOTE: some of you will have two reviews, this means you got extra (more is good!). Please answer these questions in response to both reviews.
Titling, Peer Review (Day 4, Sept 13)
- small group activity, assigned reading from The Student Writing Anthology. Select notetaker, someone to share orally with the class, and someone to keep the notes to record later in the CourseWiki.
- set up Wiki logins
- notice that the calendar of due dates for the major assignments is now posted
- visit blog and read the feedback/response from your author to you about the Peer Review you wrote of their essay on The Wall.
- arrange an interview time (within the next 36 hours) and start to think about how you will introduce your classmate to the rest of us through writing an identity narrative.
- time permitting: discussion ~ identity? ~ narrative?
Homework due 18 Sept
Complete draft of an identity narrative introducing the author whose Wall essay you read and critiqued. Bring two hard copies to class.
- 3-5 pages, typed, doubled-spaced
- unique title
- two hard copies
Ultimately, these essays will be posted on the CourseWiki (but not yet).
