Homework due 27 Sept
- Organize some notes (a mind map, web, chart, or other schemata) that compare and contrast the film, Babel, with Wynter. These will be shared in class.
- Re-read your first blogpost about Babel and see write another post: has your sense of the film changed or remained the same? Explain. Mark it in the same category: Babel for COM375
- Read, Bring Back Flogging by Jeff Jacoby (an op-ed from February 20, 1997). Reprinted in Critical Thinking, Reading and Writing: A Brief Guide to Argument, 5th Edition (2005). Boston/New York: Bedford/St. Martin's.
- Bring your Penguin Handbook (or other grammar book) to class.

- all other highlighting = grammatical, organizational, or logical errors

- Optional Homework: In your blog, using only the starred items, re-create a new summary of the argument. (Basically, a rewrite.) Categorize it as COM375: argument summary
- Due by Day 9, October 2nd. I will re-grade; you cannot do worse, you may improve.
- Homework: Correct each type of error, following these specific directions, with awareness we will co-create our own resource in the CourseWiki. (Here is a sample: Grammar and Mechanics.) For now, type this up on a page to turn in during class.
- "Title" each entry by type of error (I've listed these on your final draft in green ink).
- Quote your exact misstatement, copying and showing us the error.
- Describe and cite where you found the rule that explains how to think about/correct the error: Use proper MLA formatting.
- Rewrite the sentence so that it is grammatically correct, showing us an application of the rule within your own writing.
- Due by Day 9, October 2nd.
- Optional Homework: In your blog, using only the starred items, re-create a new summary of the argument. (Basically, a rewrite.) Categorize it as COM375: argument summary
- Coding (relating to quality of your summary):
- Debrief: Concentric Circle Activity
- Groupwork: summarize arguments of Marketing in Color, Babel, and Bring Back Flogging.
- Four groups, two each for Marketing in Color and Babel. Everyone take notes, be prepared to share out. What is "in the way" of understanding the full argument? How can you remedy this situation?
- Generate list of strategies for finding out what you do not already know.
- Penguin points activity
- Select one error from your list. Write it down ("title").
- Identify a sentence from your Final Draft/Unit 1 with this error. Quote it, precisely.
- Find the explanation and remedy for the problem. Give a brief description and cite exactly where you found it.
- Rewrite the sentence, correcting the error.
