Frames to Goals
Please read The Best Parts of Class #8 and think about mergers, blends, and convergences between "content" and "process" as we continue to refine the "shape" (scope, gist, and aim) of the coursewikiproject. Also notice disjunctures, ruptures, and points of discontinuity. (I expect you to keep in mind the reading you've done on each other's individual ideas as well as the discourse concerning cultural terms and their application to our class/group.) Notice the deliberate use of links: what current phrase, thought, concept, or experience am I choosing to associate with a previous activity, dynamic, or conversation that we've had in class? Write a response to post as a reply to Can we articulate the frame(s) emergent in our interaction? Include links to your own sources! Note: weblog links are coded slightly differently than wiki links.
A Candle for Alf and Alejandro
Please help keep track of time so that I can light the candle at 5:00 pm for this anti-FARC candlelight vigil. One of my friends' friends was released a few weeks ago [she is ok], along with the other women taken in late January. Her boyfriend and the other male are still being held hostage. Colombia and the region are still riven with violence and the threat of violence.
look me in the eye
- Please read the selections from last week's test. Pick three (not including your own), quote them, and write a post making sense of what you learn from considering eye contact from so many different angles. Can you imagine a connection with any of the meanings we made of "writing sideways"? Please be sure to include links to any/each source when you post this in your own weblog, and don't forget to categorize it!
- Instead of the usual next step, instead, go here and follow the directions.
Today's in-class activities
- Test #8
- Fishbowl K: coursewiki design and steps toward implementation
- Schein Teams! Work to combine your speciality area with a stage of development. How are you going to teach this to the rest of the class? Please post reports in the coursewiki by Saturday.
- Everyone! Take note of feedback you'd like to give each other (no peer eval sheets today, but next week's will include both today's fishbowl and the next one, too).
grading
We do have to figure this out at some point. One matter has come to my attention. I would like to return to the first day of class: the note on homework.
Homework assignments
We've got to Close The Gap between what you write and when I read so I can organize work for the next class. What do you think? Can we adjust the homework deadlines to give me time to prepare material for you to look over BEFORE you come to class?
- As we discussed, let's give this a shot:
- Be sure a representative posts your team report in the coursewiki by Friday.
- Read carefully the comments Can we articulate the frames emergent in our interaction. You may find it helpful, also to re-read the original post and comments regarding consistency and consensus: mutually exclusive? and also the comments to Why are you writing sideways. Fishbowl K will be making important decisions on our behalf; everyone should be aware of the stakes, issues, concerns, as well as dreams, goals, and aspirations shared so far in our group. Respond to building on success: a 3D puzzle with any missing pieces, clarifications or corrections to be carried into the final design-deciding fishbowl. Likewise confirm, applaud, and encourage those aspects of the design that you like and want to expand upon. Don't be shy!
- Read "The Johari Window: A Graphic Model of Awareness in Interpersonal Relations" by Joseph Luft. (If you did not get the handout distributed in class please do the two activities below anyway. I can leave copies of the article on my office door if anyone wants to come get it? Let me know! Otherwise I'll bring them next week.)
- Go to this interactive window and complete the activity. Post the URL for others to give you feedback in your own Wordpress Weblog and also EMAIL it to Steph by Sunday!
- Go to Steph's Johari Window and complete the form for her. Please use your wordpress weblog anonymous name (or a variation that I can recognize).
Extra extra read all about it!
- A second blogpost, with more ideas, that you may earn bonus/make-up for missing Wordpress Weblog work by reading thoughtfully and submitting a reply: emergence of care (as a group norm) ((?)) (((!)))
- Test 8 was distributed as homework. Please bring completed forms to class on Monday. If you did not receive one, email Steph and I'll send it to you as an attachment. Print, complete, and bring to class.
What we did last week
Wow. We did so much! And it was cool :-) Students' feedback on "the best part" of the class touched on almost everything. We spent the majority of the session talking through Steph's wicked long "thick" blogpost: Why are you writing sideways?
