Thanks to the COM352 students for contributing a bunch of new pages! I'll be moving these pages into the main area of the wiki soon.
Class:COM352 - Group Dynamics - Spring 2008/Evaluating Group Dynamics
From UMassWiki
'Evaluation Group:
Summer22 The purpose of our group is to devise a way to grade the work that has been done in our Comm 352- Group Dynamics course.
Grading will be based on peer and self evaluations. Finishing the Wiki is a concern for everyone, so we've decided that the peer and self evaluations will not be determined by the completed course Wiki, but by the work put into the Wiki itself by the group members
We've also devised a a dot/star system, where your group / the class are able to rate your accomplishments within the group. For instance, say you stated to the group that you would accomplish a specific task for the Wiki over the weekend. You then came to class on Monday without accomplishing the task. You would then get a dot. if on the other hand you were done with your assignment, and then proceeded to help someone else, you would be starred for going above and beyond.
Peer/Self Evaluations based on the dot/star system will count as 50% of the entire grade.
The other 50% will be graded by Steph. 35% will be based on the work we did with the blogposts and tests. The remaining 15% will be based on attendance and the peer evaluations that were done at the beginning of the course.
At the the beginning of class, each group will come in with one evaluation of what the group accomplished that week. The evaluation group will then collect the papers and record what was accomplished by the group. This is so we have a way of measuring the group's progress.
The entire class will then form a circle, where each group will update the class on what got accomplished and what is ongoing. Any questions or concerns within the collective may be brought up and resolved and clarified during this time.
To help smooth out the meeting, there will be four roles assigned every meeting. These roles are facilitator, note taker, stacker, and time keeper.
The Facilitator: Keeps discussion on topic, and cuts dialogue if it is redundant/out of line. Also keeps side chatter to a minimum.
Note: it is everyones responsibility to encourage a mutual respect for those speaking.
Note Taker: Writes brief notes on each groups updates to the class (what was done, what will be done etc) Records any concerns or clarifications discussed at this point.
Stacker: Writes down people's names as they raise their hands, then calls down the list to ensure order and a smooth transition.
Timekeeper: Keeps track of time, signals to stacker when time will be up to remind the class, so the stack can be closed.
